At the Fast Company Innovation Festival, former Stockton mayor Michael Tubbs and the Baby2Baby co-CEOs talked about the promise of guaranteed income for low-income families and the role of the private sector. When Michael Tubbs, the former mayor of Stockton, California, was still in office, he created a pilot program that would provide $500 a month to residents with an income under $46,000. For 24 months starting in February 2019, 125 residents of Stockton received a monthly cash infusion. During a panel at the Fast Company Innovation Festival, however, Tubbs revealed that it wasn’t until the pandemic hit that he realized just how crucial guaranteed income could be for those families.Read Full Story
